The Lares

Sacred guardians of the home and hearth. My father (though he’ll never admit it) is a votary of the house gods, our Lares, and seeks their approval and protection. For myself though raised in the tradition, I feel that the home guards itself. But here, a simple shop upon the avenue of Pompeii, they expressed their adoration. Depressions for wine and olives, the Latin travelers would seek their midday meal, a congenial snack. I, as a traveler, sought only the ordinary everyday in the face of Vesuvian catacomb, but I found that the gods have a voice even through millennia.
